We’re just back from going to all the stations at the eastern end of Isabel where we reinstalled repaired equipment. Due to the salty air and general wear-n-tear all the antennas are starting to have the same trouble with the top section rusting away from the inside, as well as guy wires that need replacing. At Lelegia village the community came together to help put up their repaired antenna. After several months Lelegia is now back on air! Congratulations Lelegia! Susubona is also back on air, so if you’re in the area listen in.
We’re just doing a couple more repairs to other antennas so by Christmas stations at Susubona, Kolotubi, Lelegia, Sigana, Tatamba, Buala and Samasodu should all be on air, with only Kia still waiting the construction of its new station. Special thanks to Philip Koutini from Buala village our resident Mr Fix-it and FM Technician extraordinaire. Philip is the McGuyver of the Solomon Islands. This man can do anything with a pocket knife, a tree branch and five minutes to think things through.
In Lelegia we reinstalled the antenna using rope, branches and people power. Check it out!

Fantastic work Claire and the Isabel teams, volunteers and communities! I think that this shows the good steady progress that can be made with the right sort of partnership.
